Getting to Malaga, Spain by Train

Malaga is a transportation hub in Costa Del Sol aka Spain’s Southern Coast so getting to our resort was a breeze! We took a train for 5 hours and 45 minutes from Barcelona to Malaga as Costa Del Sol was the second part of our epic Spain vacation. I wanted to take the train to see the beautiful Spanish coast. If you have time and like trains like I do, the trip is worth it.

Flying to Malaga, Spain

You can also fly right into Malaga via the Malaga Airport. There are flights to Malaga multiple times each day so we had no trouble flying out of Malaga to Paris for the next leg of our European adventure, Paris. The Los Amigos Beach Club Diamond Resort is in a small town just out of Malaga called Mijas.

Renting a Car in Spain

We rented a car from Hertz at the Malaga train station and were in Mijas within a half hour. Make sure to request an automatic if you need one because, in Europe, cars come manual unless you request to switch it. Also, we poped for the GPS system because you WILL lose service on windy roads through Spain.

Los Amigos Beach Club Diamond Resort Check In

Now, about the resort! First, GPS has no trouble finding Los Amigos Beach Club Resort directly off the main highway. We drove right in and were greeted with wonderful Spanish hospitality and even Sangria in the lobby. (I went for the lemon water and Nespresso coffee but my hubby was happy sipping on spirits.) The staff told us all about our room, provided a detailed map of the resort, told us a schedule of events such as live entertainment times at the restaurant, and showed us optional tours. This really helped us get our bearings. I was pleased that they had all information in multiple languages including English.

Walking around the Los Amigos Beach Club Resort, you notice their attention to detail and Spanish flair. When we got to our villa, we saw immediately that it continues indoors as well. We entered our two-story villa on the lower level, it provides a space to put down bags or hang towels before going upstairs to the main living area. Villas come in various sizes. Please check the main Los Amigos Beach Club Diamond Resort website for all available rooms. Ours was a one-bedroom and featured a large bedroom with television, air conditioning, Wifi, a private bathroom with washing machine, kitchen with full-size refrigerator, safe, and balcony with furniture and a space to hang dry laundry that I thought was absolutely adorable.

Beaches Near Los Amigos Beach Club Resort

Instead of the beach being across the street, at Los Amigos Beach Club Resort, you get to go on a short walk under a narrow highway to the beautiful beach. It took us about five minutes from leaving our villa to standing on the pristine sand. If you are a rock lover like my family is, you hit the jackpot! We spent hours on geology adventures to find amazing treasures all over the sand. There are also multiple restaurants right on the beach to choose from.

Where to Eat at the Resort

From fine dining with live entertainment to a quick stop for french fries, this Spanish resort has everything a diner could want. We loved the live singers almost every night at the main restaurant as well as the cuisine. The main pool has a bar where you can order food as well. Another easy option is to walk under the highway to the various restaurants on the beach.

Tours From The Resort

Malaga or Mijas, where we stayed in the perfect central location for many day trips around Costa Del Sol. It is as easy as picking up Rick Steves Spain book and planning out day trips on your own or, better yet, head to the Los Amigos Beach Club Resort lobby and book a tour for the next day! We did two tours through the resort, a trip to Morocco via the straight of Gibraltar, and a tour of Gibraltar itself. Going to Africa was a cool experience but we really loved the trip to Gibraltar. I highly recommend this trip. See my other blog posts for details on day trips from Malaga in Costa Del Sol.

  1. We, too, are timeshare travelers and this review of a timeshare resort was so up my alley! I’ve saved it to my board for later. Spain would be an awesome trip when my youngest is a little older!

  2. I think Spain has been an underrated country for awhile. I spent a year in Spain for school and miss it quite a lot. Your pictures were beautiful–Málaga truly is a spectacular city.

    1. I agree it is underrated. I think the more people spread the word about this amazing country, the better.

  3. I’ve had Malaga on my to-go-to list for quite awhile. I’ve traveled mostly in the north of Spain, but I love beaches, so Malaga and the Costa del Sol is of terrific interest. Thanks for the intro!
